The maternal side of Anne's family came, through the marriage of John CHOAT and Mary Ann FOSTER on 22nd June, 1819, in Southwark, London. As far as is known at present they had two sons, Ebenezer, born c.1822 and Benjamin born c.1837 in Bermondsey, London. Additional research is needed here as it is almost certain that there were other children.
Not much is known about Ebenezer except that he became a solicitor’s clerk and lived in Kings Linn, Norfolk with his wife Martha Fanny. From all accounts they had no children of their own but did raise and bring up one of their nephews - Joseph.
Benjamin married Elizabeth Harriet NEWSOM in London, exact parish not known as yet, about 1857 and together had 13 children, the eighth of whom was Joseph Newsom Choat, the nephew brought up by his uncle and aunt in Norfolk.
